Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years required. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Strong patient teaching skills. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization of skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in the following surgical areas is preferred: General surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, and Breast-hernia-thyroid surgery. Nurses with a final focus on Unit 29, will be given consideration.
