Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Clinical Manager of the Kipnes Urology Centre (KUC) in the Kaye Edmonton Clinic (KEC), this unique Registered Nurse position follows the patient journey from intake, as part of the centralized Referral & Triage team, through their care, as a RN Case Manager. This casual role is shared between the two role functions, allowing the successful incumbent an opportunity to impact the entire patient experience. This specialized nursing position requires knowledge of urological and oncology nursing. On the Referral & Triage team, the Registered Nurse is primarily responsible for the intake of referrals and requires the ability to utilize accurate assessment, evaluation and triage skills to ensure efficient and timely access to services for all urology patients. The nurse acts as a liaison between patients, physicians, and various resources in the community. The registered nurse may be involved in supporting on-going research projects related to urological disorders. On the Case Management team, the Registered Nurse is a resource for adult urology patients in helping patients understand their diagnosis, treatment options, available resources and opportunity to participate in appropriate clinical research studies. The Registered Nurse guides patients through the treatment processes as well as provides case management and direct nursing care, while acting as a liaison to co-ordinate care with a multi-disciplinary team. Key accountabilities include ensuring continuity of care, identifying and minimizing barriers to care, and providing medical, pharmacological and psychosocial support to patients and families.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Additional Required Qualifications:Three years of recent acute care urology nursing experience (obtained within the last 5 years). Previous adult case management experience. Demonstration of assessment, critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational and patient care skills. Self-direction, adaptability and flexibility are required while working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment. Ability to independently assess patient care needs and concerns and provide nursing follow-up care within Scope of Practice. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required including public speaking and teaching abilities. Excellent working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office including but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook e-mail and Calendar. A sound working knowledge of electronic medical systems (EMRs) including Connect Care, NetCare, Healthquest. Physical requirements include lifting, pushing and pulling to transfer or transport patients and equipment. (up to 50 kgs on occasional basis) Extended periods of sitting, standing and walking.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous Triage experience an asset. Participant in Quality and Process Improvement activities is preferred. Chronic Disease Management experience and Pain Management Courses are assets. Completion of an oncology certification program and/or equivalent work experience. Experience caring for patients undergoing chemotherapy, biotherapy and radiation therapy. Baccalaureate level degree in nursing. Equivalent education and experience may be considered.
