Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current adult surgical nursing experience within the last 5 years is required. A minimum of 1 year General Surgery and/or Hepatobiliary experience is required. Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Demonstrated excellent assessment, documentation, clinical, organizational and patient care skills. Proficient at medication administration calculations. Candidates may be required to complete a medication calculation exam on interview. Failure to achieve a passing mark on the exam may impact decision to hire. Ability to communicate findings in a clear, concise and accurate manner, both written and verbally. Demonstrated ability to deal with stressful situations and work in a fast paced, physically demanding environment. Able to prioritize complex patient care needs and demands, prioritize workload assignment and cope with frequent interruptions. Demonstrate initiative, reliability, flexibility and critical thinking. Connect Care trained.

Preferred Qualifications:

Current IV therapy, Pre-op/Post-op care protocols, Central line/PICC care, Ostomy care, basic surgical wound/drain care, complex wound care and negative pressure wounds (VAC dressing), NG tube insertion and management, TPN administration, PCA/PCEA/TAP management, Insulin infusion protocols and blood product administration. Strong patient teaching skills. Charge Nurse and Connect Care (EPIC) trained. Note: Rotation subject to change.
